VHS-style horror exploration game

The Building 71 Incident is a free adventure game developed by independent game creation, Scary Cube for PC. It's a first-person horror exploration that has players investigate the bizarre events that happened at a Brazilian university during the late 1990s while recording it all on a VHS tape.

Just like with Train 113 or The House In The Woods, The Building 71 Incident provides an eerie and atmospheric feel that lets players have a truly immersive experience while playing. Also, the use of VHS-style presentation that remains faithful and believable to the game's setting.

What is it all about?

The Building 71 Incident is set between 1997-1998 at a university in the south of Brazil. One of its buildings, called "building 71", was forced to close down due to an alleged gas leak. However, despite the closure, there have been numerous reports of suspicious activity going on inside it. One unnamed employee decides to investigate these events and record them all on his VHS recorder. It just so happens that person is you.

The unknown employee was eventually declared missing by the police. Footage from his recordings resurfaced, though, and has been released to the public. Take this journey to relive and re-experience what exactly went on in the building as you conducted your investigation. It relies on its clever narration and environmental storytelling to provide a tense situation with an ever-growing sense of dread as you move from one location to the next.

Now, given that it's an exploration game, don't go into it expecting some kind of action-oriented gameplay. There are plenty of interactable objects in it, but they are meant more as tools to be used to push the narrative forward. Also, there are no objectives to be met during your gameplay as the story is the main focus of The Building 71 Incident.

Well-crafted and unique

The Building 71 Incident is not like your typical horror adventure game. There are jump scares here, and instead, the game relies on its well-crafted narrative and excellent environmental storytelling to build up tension and a sense of dread. The VHS-style presentation is very well suited to its overall theme and makes the experience that much more unique. Highly recommended.
